Original Photography of Manhattan bridge in Dumbo taken in Winter 2015 That I digitally edited to give a lovely vintage rustic vibe and transferred by Hand on to Wood coming from certified sustainable tree farms.
I Make them in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY ( I take appointments via private message if you are interested in visiting the studio ), and their size is 38 inches wide by 20 inches long with a thickness of 2inch.
I use decoupage techniques to transfer the image I've designed onto the Wood. Once the transferred image is dry, I add a thin layer of clear varnish to give some shine and protect the image. Once dry, I sand the borders of the Wood to create round corners and the wood-finished edges.
My name is Nicolas Gabot, and I am the owner of the Brooklyn Art Factory, a small decoration business, without any reallocation more than the studio in the basement of my house, markets, pop-ups, and craft fairs; I have been doing this for the last six years.
With a background in photography and design, I wanted to create something that brought a sense of belonging to everyone's neighborhood; we all hold a special place for our current or previous neighborhoods. I do this by making signs or taking photos that I will later turn into wooden pieces, and I hope to represent every neighborhood of NY, even the ones people think no one is going to know. Every community is essential.
